Casta Lina House Fire, First Arriving Units Report "Fire Through the Roof"
Mon. Feb 8th 2010

Today at 1410 hours the alarm was struck for 4111 Casta Lina Court reported house fire in the 1st district. Murrysville Pd was quick on the scene reporting working fire. Chief 20 would head up Casta Lina command and put companys to work. Truck 20 would arrive and set up side A for extensive tower ladder operations, Engine 78 was right behind the truck arriving and laying 700' of 5 in. supply line to the truck. Tower ladder operations would continue through most of the afternoon as command decided to go defensive operations being that the entire roof collapsed into the 2nd division. After the tower ladder knocked down the majority of the heavy fire, command would put a CAFS line in operation from Engine 78 to get a handle on the hot spots and spot fires that were hard to access from the tower. crews from 78,64,9,22 and 20  would operate for close to 5 1/2 hours.  610 would handle support and EMS and 87 Rescue headed up by Chief Good handled the RIT Assignment and did a great job as always, thanks 87. Special thanks to all who helped on this frigid afternoon, from municipal employees that cleared the hydrant for us to Mr. Bob Bell for sending the salt truck to treat the roads for us and the backhoe for clearing the deep snow. GREAT JOB BY ALL!!
